We wish you a warm welcome to Stone House and hope you have an enjoyable stay. If there is anything we can do to make your stay better please let us know.
Here you will find information which we hope will help you and enhance your stay with us. We have provided emergency information first as we feel it should be easy to find.
FIRE
In the event of a fire the alarm will sound. Please leave the house immediately – do not try to collect your belongings. Please call 999 as we would rather everybody did it than nobody! Our address is Stone House, Shifnal Road, Priorlsee, Telford TF2 9NN. Please meet on the car park across the road. In the extremely unlikely event that you discover a fire in the main house and the alarm doesn’t sound please leave the building as above but press the emergency button on the right hand side by the front door. This will alert other guests. The garden annexe rooms have their own separate independent alarms and guests should evacuate the building as above.
ILLNESS
Our local A&E department is at The Princess Royal Hospital, Apley Castle, Apley, TF1 6TF. Their web address https://www.sath.nhs.uk/patients-visitors/
ABOUT US
We are Dave and Carol Taylor and we bought the guest house in 2004. We first moved to Telford in 1990 so have extensive knowledge of the area which we are happy to share with you. We have two grown up children, Zoe and Matt. Zoe now lives in Oxfordshire and Matt still lives with us. Carol is a teaching assistant at the local primary school and looks after children in reception. Dave runs the house with a lot of help from Carol on her days off! We try to run our guest house in a friendly and informal way and we do like to have fun but we also strive to offer outstanding value for money.
ROOMS
In each room there is a fridge. There is bottled water in the fridge but the water in all rooms is potable. We are trying hard to reduce our plastic waste so if you could help us by drinking tap water it would be appreciated. Similarly we have moved away from the UHT milk containers prevalent in the hospitality industry and now provide a bottle of milk which you will also find in the fridge. If you need more then please ask. We provide what we believe to be a comprehensive range of refreshments for your use whilst you are here which you will find in the basket by the kettle. Rooms also have a quality hair dryer in one of the drawers. If you need to use an iron and ironing board we have one available if you let us know. For longer term stays we can arrange to wash and dry clothes for a small charge – please let us know if you would like us to do so. There are blankets in all rooms and we adjust the quilt size according to the season. We want you to be comfortable so if you would like a thicker or thinner quilt please ask. All the televisions have a slot for a DVD.
BREAKFAST
Breakfast is served from 7am until 9am. If you have a particularly early start then we may be able to help as long as you talk to us first. If you prefer to take away a sandwich we can provide them but would appreciate it if you could mention it the night before. We will, in all likelihood, have discussed this with you at check in. If you have any particular dietary requirements please draw these to our attention.
EVENING MEALS
We do not provide evening meals but we are able to heat up your food for you and provide a plate and cutlery. We would suggest that you ask us in the morning about this as we may be out in the evening so this service is ‘subject to availability’ and available until 8pm.
There are countless restaurants and take away outlets in Telford but the obvious place to eat and drink would be The Lion next door. It is a friendly family local and serves good food and drink. The Southwater area behind the shopping mall at Telford Town Centre has a number of national eateries all in one place so is also quite popular. As you will appreciate eating establishments do change and we should be able to point you in the direction of a place to suit you and we do try to keep up to date with which ones seem to be doing well. If a takeaway is what you want we would much prefer that you eat it in the dining room rather than your bedroom as we have had some disasters in the past which have proved very costly!
LOCAL AREA
If you require a local shop, the Co-Op in Priorslee is the nearest shop. They are open from 6am until 10pm every day and sell groceries, drinks, a limited supply of newspapers, snacks amd have a cash machine. To drive there go to the roundabout at the end of Shifnal Road (where you came in) and take the fourth exit. The shop is about half a mile on the right off the mini roundabout.
There is also a chemist there. They are open from 9am Monday to Friday and 9 am to 1pm on Saturday.
Outside these hours we have two Adsa stores open 24 hours, one at TF2 7RX and one at TF3 4HZ . Restricted hours apply on Saturday night and Sundays.
ATTRACTIONS
There are many local attractions to suit lots of different tastes and we stock a small number of leaflets by the front door. The most popular ones are listed
Ironbridge. We are a little over six miles from the historic site of the world’s first Iron Bridge built in 1779 which, it is said, was the start of the Industrial Revolution. There are a number of museums associated with the bridge in the local area with the biggest being Blists Hill Victorian town. We have maps of the museums and if you do decide to go and have a look we would suggest you look at purchasing a passport ticket. This will allow you access to all the museums for a year and will save you money of you intend to go to more than two. http://www.ironbridge.org.uk
RAF Cosford. Located near junction 3 of the M54 and about six miles away the museum is free to enter (unless they have special events on) although they do make a very small charge to park. The museum is full of planes from all eras of aviation history with a wealth of information about them. They also hold an annual air show for which you must pre-buy tickets which is very popular. There is a station near the museum so you can get a train there from Telford Central but make sure you catch one of the trains which stop there as they don’t all! https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/
Telford Centre, Southwater and the Town Park. Only a mile or so away is the indoor shopping mall in Telford. It is large, airy, clean and full of shops! Not the place for us all but if shopping is your thing then it is ideal. South of the mall is Southwater which is a leisure area. There you will find ten pin bowling, an ice rink, a cinema, pubs, cafes and restau ants. http://www.southwater-telford.co.uk
Shrewsbury. Our county town steeped in history and although it has a smaller population than Telford is considerably older with it’s known history commencing in the early middle ages. It is a lovely town with some superb black and white buildings, a large park by the river Severn known as the Quarry in which you will find a pretty garden area known as The Dingle, lots of little alleys between streets (known as shuts) great shops and pubs and a fantastic range of restaurants with the majority being independent. You can travel there by car, bus or train and it is around sixteen miles away. http://www.originalshrewsbury.co.uk
Bridgnorth. This historic town divided into High Town and Low Town divided by the river Severn and boasts a furnicular railway climbing the cliffs between the two. It is also the home of the Severn Valley Railway http://www.svr.co.uk which is a heritage railway running 16 miles to Kidderminster mainly using steam locomotives. There is a lovely park in High Town with the precariously leaning remains of the castle. There is lots to see and do in this small town where you will also find sandstone caves which were inhabited as late as 1939. http://www.aboutbridgnorth.com
